Located in the heart of the prestigious Médoc region in Bordeaux, France, Château La Tour Carnet is a renowned wine producer with a long and rich history. The estate has been producing wine for over 900 years, making it one of the oldest wine estates in the region. It is also one of the few Crus Classés in the Haut-Médoc appellation.
The Château was originally built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century as a fortified castle to protect the region from invasions. The name "Carnet" comes from the Latin word "carnaticum," which means a fortified place. In the 19th century, the estate was acquired by the famous French winemaker and politician, Jean-Jacques de Bethmann, who transformed it into a prestigious wine estate. Today, the estate is owned by Bernard Magrez, a well-known figure in the Bordeaux wine industry.
The Château La Tour Carnet vineyard covers 130 hectares of land, with 72 hectares dedicated to growing red grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The remaining 58 hectares are used for growing white grape varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The vineyard is well-known for its exceptional terroir, with vines planted on gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and natural irrigation. The vineyard also benefits from a maritime climate, with warm summers and mild winters, creating the ideal conditions for grape growing.
The winemaking process at Château La Tour Carnet is a combination of tradition and modern techniques. The grapes are handpicked and sorted to ensure only the best quality grapes are used in the winemaking process. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels for 12-18 months, depending on the vintage, before being bottled and released to the market.
The flagship wine of the estate is the Château La Tour Carn
