The Gaja 2017 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn opens to a luminous ruby appearance with pretty crimson highlights. This vintage appears lighter in color and concentration compared to past editions. The bouquet delivers a purity and sharpness nonetheless, but it offers less overall fruit. It shows subtle berry tones with blue flower, aniseed and candied orange peel. This very young Sorì Tildìn takes time to open, and it remains on the nervous side even after it has been given ample time in the glass. The best course of action is to wait until the 10-year mark before opening this bottle. It needs that extra time to soften and flesh out.

Here's a wonderfully spicy and opulent rendition of Nebbiolo and another very full and rich Barbaresco from Gaja. The 2016 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is open, more concentrated and structured. There are pretty floral notes of rose hip or wild rose in this generous wine of broad scope. We're talking about smaller fruit here, with plums, cassis, blackberry and plenty of power. Everything came to perfect maturity in this 2016 vintage, representing that rare merge of quantity and quality. This is what you get from the dense soils of the warm, south-facing Sorì Tildìn site and similar ones where the terrain can keep the moisture locked in. The 2016 growing season was also marked by sharp diurnal shifts, and rainfall was well-timed to occur when it was needed most.

This is a wine of profound elegance and grace. The 2014 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is fine and deeply finessed, with long and polished berry notes that are enhanced by mild spice and smoky mineral notes. The wine starts off slowly and subtly. You can follow its evident progression as it opens and evolves quickly in the glass. In fact, of Gaja's three single-vineyard expressions, this wine is the most fluid and changing. The tannins are fine and nicely integrated to give the wine power, grace and staying power.

Barbaresco is een wijngebied in de regio Piemonte in Italië. De regio staat bekend om de productie van rode wijnen van hoge kwaliteit gemaakt van de Nebbiolo druif. Barbaresco is een van de drie grote wijngebieden in Piemonte, samen met Barolo en Asti.

De geschiedenis van Barbaresco gaat terug tot de 19e eeuw toen de eerste Nebbiolo wijnstokken werden aangeplant in de regio. De wijn won aan populariteit in de 20e eeuw toen hij in 1966 werd erkend als DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata). In 1980 kreeg Barbaresco de DOCG-status (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), het hoogste niveau van de Italiaanse wijnclassificatie.

Barbaresco wijnen staan bekend om hun elegantie, complexiteit en rijpingspotentieel. De wijnen rijpen meestal minstens twee jaar, waarvan minstens één jaar in eiken vaten. Barbaresco wijnen worden gekenmerkt door hun aroma's van rood fruit, bloemen en kruiden, maar ook door hun stevige tannines en hoge zuurgraad.

Er zijn verschillende opmerkelijke producenten in de Barbaresco regio, waaronder Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco en Bruno Giacosa. Gaja is een van de bekendste producenten in de regio, bekend om hun moderne stijl van wijnmaken en het gebruik van internationale druivenrassen. Produttori del Barbaresco is een coöperatie van kleine telers die Barbaresco-wijnen in traditionele stijl produceert. Bruno Giacosa staat bekend om zijn Barbaresco-wijnen in klassieke stijl, die minimaal drie jaar rijpen voordat ze worden vrijgegeven.

Barbaresco is een kleine regio, met slechts ongeveer 700 hectare wijngaarden. De regio is verdeeld in vier gemeenten: Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso en San Rocco Seno d'Elvio. De Barbaresco-gemeente is de bekendste en produceert de meest gewaardeerde wijnen.

Naast Barbaresco wijnen produceert de regio ook een kleine hoeveelheid witte wijn gemaakt van de Arneis druivensoort. De wijn staat bekend om zijn bloemige aroma's en knisperende zuren.

In het algemeen is Barbaresco een regio die enkele van de beste wijnen van Italië produceert. De wijnen zijn zeer gewild bij verzamelaars en wijnliefhebbers over de hele wereld.
