Corsica

Corsica, also known as the "Island of Beauty," is home to a thriving wine industry that has been gaining international recognition in recent years. One of the standout producers from this Mediterranean island is Domaine Comte Abbatucci, a family-owned winery located in the southern part of Corsica.

The Abbatucci family has been making wine for generations, with the current owner, Jean-Charles Abbatucci, taking over the winery in the 1980s. He has since transformed the estate into a biodynamic winery, with a strong focus on preserving the natural balance of the environment and producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Corsica.

Domaine Comte Abbatucci has about 18 hectares of vineyards, spread over several different sites in the mountainous region of Taravo. The vineyards are situated at high altitudes, ranging from 300 to 600 meters above sea level, which allows for a cooler climate and longer ripening period for the grapes. The winery produces a variety of red, white, and rosé wines, all made from indigenous Corsican grape varieties.

One of the standout wines from Domaine Comte Abbatucci is their AOC Ajaccio "Cuvée Collection" red wine. This blend of Sciaccarello, Niellucciu, and Grenache grapes is aged in large oak barrels for 18 months, resulting in a complex and elegant wine with aromas of dark berries, spices, and a hint of smoke. Another notable wine is their AOC Ajaccio "Cuvée Faustine" white wine, made from Vermentino grapes and aged in stainless steel tanks. This wine is fresh and aromatic, with notes of citrus, white flowers, and a mineral finish.

In addition to their commitment to biodynamic farming, Domaine Comte Abbatucci also embraces traditional winemaking techniques, such as using native yeasts for fermentation and minimal intervention in
