Always a blend of fruit from the Barossa and Eden Valleys, Torbreck's 2019 The Struie is almost entirely Barossa Valley, with only 8% coming from the Eden Valley. Aged in 20% new French oak for 20 months, it's very dark in the glass, with aromas of pencil shavings, blueberries and baking spices. Full-bodied and even more intense than the impressive 2018, it remains supple and smooth from start to finish, where hints of licorice and warmth emphasize the wine's ripeness.

Torbreck - The Struie - Shiraz

Torbreck is a renowned winery in the Barossa Valley, Australia, known for producing exceptional wines that showcase the region's unique terroir. The Struie Shiraz is one of their flagship wines, made from grapes sourced from both the Barossa and Eden Valleys.

The Struie Shiraz is a full-bodied wine with a deep ruby colour and intense aromas of blackberry, plum, and spice. On the palate, it is rich and complex, with flavours of dark fruit, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, giving the wine a long and satisfying finish.

The history of Torbreck dates back to the mid-1990s when founder David Powell started making wine in a shed on his family's vineyard. Today, Torbreck is recognised as one of Australia's leading wineries, with a focus on producing premium Shiraz and Rhone-style blends.

The Struie Shiraz is a wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with hearty dishes such as grilled meats, stews, or strong cheeses. It is best served at room temperature and can be cellared for up to 10 years to allow the flavours to develop further.

Torbreck's 2017 The Struie is another one of the values to be had from this producer. Marked by pronounced floral and blueberry notes, this full-bodied, creamy-textured sexpot is rich and concentrated, with just enough spice to keep the palate engaged through the long, velvety finish.
The 2021 The Struie is 100% Shiraz from both the Barossa (57%) and the Eden Valley (43%), and it matured for 18 months in French oak (20% new). The proportion of Eden Valley inclusion is usually around 25%, but in 2019, it was down to 10% due to the very low yields. So, this 2021 Struie is blue-fruited on the nose, with blueberry, licorice, black tea, crushed rocks, summer raspberry, layers of campfire embers and clove. It might be that in many of the tasting notes from 2021, that the wines outperform previous vintages. This is because the cool season was long, so great ripeness was achieved, without the stress or impact of heat events and disease. It's a lovely, lovely year that has made wines with freshness and intensity. The tannins through the finish here are savory and fine and black.

Torbreck is an Australian winery on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley at Marananga. Founded by David Powell in 1994, the famous vineyard was named after a forest in Scotland where he spent time as a lumberjack. He honed his oenological skills at Rockford, the celebrated Barossa winery.

Year after year David has refined the style of his wines, remaining faithful to his inspiration of the Rhône valley, perfecting his yield of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro. The aim was to build one of the finest wine estates in the world and his vision was accomplished when the winery was named one of the World’s top 100 Wine Estates by Robert Parker.

“Every now and then, in life and in wine, we are presented with unique opportunities to express ourselves and create something truly remarkable. When these rare opportunities arise, we need to capture, nurture and develop them so that their potential is fulfilled.” Craig Isbel, Senior Winemaker
