Vosne-Romanée is a village appellation in Burgundy's Côte d'Or, located in the Côte de Nuits subregion between Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges. This commune encompasses some of Burgundy's most celebrated vineyard sites, including several Grand Cru climats that rank among the world's most valuable wine real estate. The village appellation itself covers vineyard plots that do not qualify for the higher Grand Cru or Premier Cru classifications within the commune boundaries.

The appellation sits on the limestone-rich slopes of the Côte d'Or escarpment, where Jurassic soils provide excellent drainage and mineral complexity. Only Pinot Noir is permitted for red wine production under the Vosne-Romanée appellation, following traditional Burgundian winemaking practices that emphasize vineyard expression over manipulation. The continental climate features warm summers and cool autumns, with the east-facing slopes receiving optimal morning sun exposure while being protected from harsh western weather.

Vosne-Romanée wines display the elegant, perfumed character typical of northern Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir, often showing red fruit aromatics with floral notes of violet and rose. These wines tend to be more refined and silky in texture compared to the more structured expressions from neighboring Gevrey-Chambertin, yet maintain good aging potential. The limestone-influenced terroir contributes mineral undertones and a distinctive finesse that sets village-level Vosne-Romanée apart from other Burgundian appellations.
