Grgich Hills Estate operates in California's Napa Valley, producing wines from both estate vineyards and carefully selected fruit sources. The winery was established by Croatian-born winemaker Miljenko "Mike" Grgich, who gained recognition for his winemaking at other Napa Valley properties before founding his own estate. The operation focuses on traditional winemaking techniques combined with sustainable farming practices.

Napa Valley's Mediterranean climate and diverse soil types provide ideal conditions for premium grape growing, particularly for Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as aromatic whites such as Sauvignon Blanc. The region's warm days and cool nights allow for extended ripening periods while maintaining natural acidity in the grapes. Grgich Hills follows biodynamic farming principles and employs minimal intervention winemaking methods, including native yeast fermentations and extended aging programs.

The estate's current portfolio includes both red and white wines, with their Cabernet Sauvignon incorporating Merlot and Verdejo in the blend alongside the primary variety. Their white wine production features Sauvignon Blanc, labeled as Fumé Blanc in the Loire Valley style, which showcases the grape's natural aromatics and crisp acidity characteristic of well-made Napa Valley expressions of this variety.
