The nose offers delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, and a subtle minerality, characteristic of the Clos Romans terroir. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing, with vibrant acidity and flavors of green apple, lemon balm, and a hint of wet stone. The finish is long and mineral, with a touch of salinity that adds depth and complexity.
This wine is vinified naturally, reflecting Thierry Germain's commitment to biodynamic practices, and is recommended to be enjoyed within 2 to 5 years for optimal freshness.
Fresh and wonderfully minty, the 2018 Saumur Blanc Clos Romans exhibits aromas of spring flowers, ripe orchard fruits, crushed stones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and charming, rich and concentrated, the chalky texture leads the way to a long, mineral finish. It will take some time for this racy thoroughbred to hit its stride.
From Senonian limestone soils, the 2016 Saumur Blanc Clos Romans opens with a very elegant and subtle bouquet of white flowers and caramelly notes (crème caramel). Tight but intense and very mineral on the palate, this is a concentrated and structured as well as elegant and persistent Chenin with ripe and even lush fruit. The finish is aromatic and delicate but also firm and very long, structured by fine tannins and a refreshing minerality. This is a great and complex Saumur and for Thierry, one of the best whites he has produced, along with 2014. The pH of the 2016 is 2.9, so no malolactic is done here.
