Mailly Grand Cru

Mailly Grand Cru is a cooperative champagne house based in the village of Mailly-Champagne, located in the Montagne de Reims sub-region. The cooperative was founded by growers from the village, whose vineyards hold Grand Cru classification — one of only seventeen villages in Champagne to carry this designation. Because the cooperative draws exclusively from this single Grand Cru village, all of its champagnes are produced from estate-grown fruit.

Mailly-Champagne's Grand Cru vineyards are planted predominantly with Pinot Noir, which thrives on the chalky soils of the Montagne de Reims and contributes structure, red fruit character, and vinous depth to the wines. Chardonnay plays a secondary but important role, providing freshness and aromatic lift. The resulting champagnes tend to be fuller-bodied and more vinous than those from predominantly Chardonnay villages such as Cramant or Avize, reflecting the character of a Pinot Noir-dominant terroir.

Among the cooperative's top cuvées is Les Échansons, a prestige blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from the oldest vines in the cooperative's holdings. It is produced only in selected vintages and undergoes extended aging on the lees, resulting in greater complexity and depth than the house's standard releases.
