Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is a historic wine estate located in Pessac-Léognan, within Bordeaux's Left Bank. The property sits directly across the road from Château Haut-Brion and has been producing wine since the 17th century. Originally established by the Lazarist Mission of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, the estate has been owned by the Dillon family since 1983, who also own the neighboring Haut-Brion.

The Pessac-Léognan appellation, established in 1987, represents the northern part of the Graves region and is distinguished by its gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and heat retention. These geological conditions favor Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot cultivation, allowing the grapes to achieve full ripeness while maintaining structure. La Mission Haut-Brion's vineyards benefit from this terroir, producing wines known for their power, complexity, and distinctive mineral character that reflects the gravelly subsoil.

The estate's red wines are crafted from classic Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The blend typically emphasizes Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Cabernet Franc adding aromatic complexity and structural refinement. La Mission Haut-Brion wines are recognized for their ability to age gracefully, developing tertiary aromatics and textural sophistication over decades in the cellar.
