Domaine Carneros is a sparkling wine producer located in the Carneros appellation, which straddles the southern ends of both Napa and Sonoma counties in California. The estate was established as a joint venture between the Champagne house Taittinger and Kobrand Corporation, and its winery building, modeled after a French château, sits on a hill overlooking the vineyards. The producer focuses exclusively on méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines and Pinot Noir, drawing on the cool, fog-influenced growing conditions that define the Carneros AVA.
Carneros is one of California's cooler wine regions, benefiting from maritime influence off San Pablo Bay. These conditions — morning fog, afternoon winds, and moderate temperatures — slow grape ripening and help retain natural acidity, making the area well suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the two varieties that form the backbone of traditional sparkling wine production. The resulting wines tend toward elegance and freshness rather than the riper, fuller-bodied style associated with warmer parts of Napa Valley.
The Brut is the estate's signature non-vintage and vintage sparkling wine, blending Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the classic tradition. Pinot Noir typically contributes structure and red fruit character, while Chardonnay provides citrus notes and finesse. The 2018 vintage Brut reflects a single growing season and is made in the same méthode traditionnelle style — secondary fermentation in bottle — used in Champagne production.
