Pazo Barrantes

Pazo Barrantes is a wine estate located in the Rías Baixas appellation of Galicia, in northwest Spain. The property is associated with the Marqués de Murrieta group and sits within the Salnés Valley subzone, which is considered the heartland of Albariño production. The estate takes its name from the traditional Galician manor house, or pazo, on the property.

Rías Baixas is defined almost entirely by the Albariño grape, a white variety that thrives in the region's Atlantic climate — cool temperatures, high rainfall, and granite-based soils. Wines from this appellation are typically characterized by high natural acidity, aromatic intensity with notes of citrus, stone fruit, and saline minerality, and a crisp, dry palate. The combination of oceanic influence and well-drained granitic terrain gives Albariño from this area a distinctive tension between fruit and freshness.

Pazo Barrantes produces its Gran Vino Albariño as a more serious, structured expression of the grape, intended to show greater depth and aging potential than the region's standard releases. This approach reflects a broader movement within Rías Baixas toward demonstrating that Albariño can develop complexity beyond its youth while retaining the variety's characteristic acidity and aromatic profile.
