Marcel Couturier crafts his wines from only 11 ha of vines located between the villages of Loché and Fuissé, in the south of Mâconnais.  The vineyard is managed according to the principles of organic farming, without certification.   This wine is fresh, expressive and generous. With its nose of citrus, vanilla and hints of hazelnut with a mineral edge. The taste is rich and deliciously concentrated. Warm rounded flavours of spice and apple this is a truly delicious white burgundy.

Marcel Couturier is a renowned wine producer from the Burgundy region of France. The history of this winery dates back to the early 20th century when Marcel Couturier started producing wine in the small village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Today, the winery is run by his grandson, who has continued the family tradition of producing high-quality wines.

The style of production at Marcel Couturier is traditional and focused on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Burgundy. The winery produces a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Aligoté. The Chardonnay wines are particularly noteworthy, with the winery producing some of the finest white wines in the region.

The winemaking process at Marcel Couturier is meticulous, with a focus on handpicking the grapes and using traditional winemaking techniques. The winery uses only the finest grapes, which are carefully selected to ensure that only the best fruit is used in the winemaking process. The wines are then aged in oak barrels, which adds complexity and depth to the final product.

Marcel Couturier is known for producing wines that are elegant, complex, and age-worthy. The wines have a distinct minerality and acidity, which is a hallmark of the Burgundy region. The winery's Chardonnay wines are particularly noteworthy, with a rich, creamy texture and notes of citrus and stone fruit.

Overall, Marcel Couturier is a producer that is highly regarded in the wine world. The winery's commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and focus on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Burgundy has earned it a reputation for producing some of the finest wines in the region. If you are looking for a high-quality Burgundy wine, Marcel Couturier is definitely a producer to consider.

The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. Aligoté is the second white grape, accounting for 6% grown. {Read more about the ancient Aligoté grape in Burgundy.}

The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.
