Ladyburn 42 Years Old is an extremely rare single malt from the closed Lowland distillery Ladyburn, which was in operation for only nine years. The whisky was distilled in March 1973 and aged for 42(!) years before being bottled in July 2015. Ladyburn 42 Years Old has a unique, beautifully balanced flavour profile. On the nose, expect deep aromas of linseed oil, subtle vanilla oak, fresh fruits, polished wood and leather. The palate is rich and mouthcoating with notes of stewed fruits, dried orange, prune and antique leather. The finish is long and slightly dry with lingering hints of chocolate, spices and oak. Ladyburn has the curious distinction of being the shortest operational distillery in the history of Scotch whisky. It was founded in 1966 by William Grant & Sons on the site of their large grain distillery in Girvan, Ayrshire. Ladyburn was not so much its own separate distillery as a pair of stills within the Grant complex, meaning that when it was shut down only nine years later it didn’t leave many traces except for a few barrels of whisky. Most of the production was used in the Grant’s blends, and single malt bottlings are extremely rare. Only 1150 individually numbered bottles of Ladyburn 42 Years Old have been released.
