The nose of this Pinotage is mainly red-fruited, with a precise core that wafts with white and red spiced tea, fresh black cherry and dark dusty plum. The palate is honest with precision and focus not typically seen with Pinotage. The wine shows a remarkable balance of fruit, earth and florals, with a medium body. The finish is still grippy and lingers with well-structured tannins.
The nose of the 2016 Pinotage is mainly red-fruited, with a precise core that wafts with white and red spiced tea, fresh black cherry and dark dusty plum. The palate is honest with precision and focus not typically seen with Pinotage. The wine shows a remarkable balance of fruit, earth and florals, with a medium body. The finish is still grippy and lingers with well-structured tannins. There are none of the tones of the "funky Pinotage" to be found here. After fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine was moved into barrel and aged for 18 months. If you are not familiar with Beaumont, it is time to explore some of their wines.
Although best known for their deliciously vibrant and full-flavoured whites made from Chenin Blanc, the Beaumont estate also produces limited quantities of red wines from the Pinotage grape. Pinotage was the first wine made at Beaumont and this bottling is a stunning example of cool climate Pinotage made from 45-year-old vines. The grapes are vinified in concrete tanks and then aged in oak barrels for 18 months to soften Pinotage’s notoriously firm tannins. The result is a well-built, intensely fruited red wine with ample dark berry and cherry character which lingers on the tongue. The structure, fine balance, and subtle freshness of this wine make it an excellent match for red meat, and it will continue to develop and evolve if cellared over the next decade or so.
The 2014 Pinotage comes from 21 and 43-year-old vines that crop at three tons per hectare; the wine is fermented in open-top concrete vats and matured in barrel for 18 months, a production of 62 barrels. It has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, mulberry and wild hedgerow aromas. There is an attractive "coolness" to it. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, ripe blackberry and bilberry with black pepper and iodine, perhaps needing just a little more persistence on the finish. Otherwise, this is a very finely made Pinotage from Beaumont.

Beaumont is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation in Bordeaux, France. The estate has a long and rich history dating back to the 17th century when it was owned by the Du Bosq family. In 1824, the estate was purchased by the Laporte family who expanded the vineyards and modernized the winemaking facilities.

Today, Beaumont is owned by the Cazes family, who also own the famous Château Lynch-Bages estate. The vineyards at Beaumont cover 114 hectares and are planted with a mix of grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The estate produces a range of wines, including a red blend, a white blend, and a rosé.

The red blend is the flagship wine of the estate and is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, which gives it a complex and rich flavor profile. The wine is known for its deep ruby color, aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, and its firm tannins.

The white blend is made from a mix of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes. The wine is fermented in oak barrels and aged on its lees for several months, which gives it a creamy texture and a complex flavor profile. The wine is known for its aromas of citrus and white flowers, as well as its crisp acidity.

The rosé is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for several months before bottling. The wine is known for its pale pink color, aromas of red berries and citrus, and its refreshing acidity.

Beaumont is known for producing wines that are elegant, complex, and age-worthy. The estate has won numerous awards and accolades over the years, including a 90+ rating from Wine Spectator for its red blend.
