On the nose, notes of lemon peel and minerals. On the palate, the wine is fresh, with aromas of very ripe exotic fruits, slight notes of noble vegetal. Wine of great purity, balance while tension from the attack to the finish, long, crystalline.

The 2011 Savennières Clos du Papillon is a rich, fruit intense and powerful, but also very elegant and mineral, perfectly balanced Chenin with everything in place to age superbly. Domaine des Baumard is situated right in the heart of the Anjou, in the town of Rochefort-Sur-Loire, just south of Savennières itself. The property has been in the Baumard family since 1634, but it was reconstituted and improved by Jean Baumard in the mid-1950s. Since 1992 the Estate has been run with meticulous care by Jean’s son, Florent, and the Domaine is now regarded as one of the best producers in the Loire Valley and one of the greatest producers of white wine in the world.

Savennières is a small wine appellation located in the Loire Valley region of France. The appellation is known for producing some of the finest white wines in the world, made from the Chenin Blanc grape variety. The wines of Savennières are known for their complexity, depth, and ability to age gracefully.

The history of winemaking in Savennières dates back to the 11th century, when monks from the nearby Abbey of Saint-Nicolas de Angers began cultivating vineyards in the area. The monks recognised the unique terroir of the region, which is characterised by its schist soils and cool climate, and began producing wines that were highly sought after by the nobility of the time.

Today, the wines of Savennières are still highly prized by wine enthusiasts around the world. The appellation covers just over 300 hectares of vineyards, which are divided into three main terroirs: La Roche aux Moines, Coulée de Serrant, and Roche aux Moines. Each terroir has its own unique characteristics, which are reflected in the wines produced there.

The style of production in Savennières is focused on producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines that express the unique characteristics of the region. The Chenin Blanc grapes used to make the wines are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. The wines are then fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, depending on the producer's preference.

The wines of Savennières are known for their complexity and depth, with flavours of honey, citrus, and stone fruit. They are also known for their ability to age gracefully, with some of the best examples of the wines being able to age for decades. The wines of Savennières are a true expression of the terroir of the Loire Valley, and are a must-try for any serious wine enthusiast.

In conclusion, Savennières is a small but highly regarded wine appellation in the Loire Valley region of France. The wines produced here are known for their complexity, depth, and ability to age gracefully. The unique terroir of the region, combined with the skill and dedication of the producers, results in some of the finest white wines in the world.
